Job Description: Grocery Clerk
Position Title: Grocery Clerk
Reports to: Store Manager, Grocery Manager, or Grocery Supervisor

Summary:
The Grocery Clerk is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the grocery department, and ensuring that shelves are stocked with the correct products. This role involves accurately processing transactions, assisting with inventory management, and supporting loss prevention initiatives. The Grocery Clerk is expected to adhere to company policies and contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Customer Service:
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, assisting customers in locating products and answering inquiries.
  • Accurately process customer transactions using POS systems, ensuring the correct application of PLU and department numbers.
  • Engage in suggestive selling of products as per company procedures to enhance the customer shopping experience.
  • Address customers courteously, using "please," "thank you," and their first name when possible.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of grocery products to effectively assist customers.
  • Follow company procedures for handling customer returns, exchanges, and refunds.
2. Stocking and Inventory Management:
  • Restock shelves and displays, ensuring products are faced properly and arranged according to planograms.
  • Monitor product levels on shelves and replenish stock as needed.
  • Assist in conducting inventory counts and reporting discrepancies to the Grocery Manager or Supervisor.
  • Rotate products to ensure freshness and reduce shrinkage, following the FIFO (First In, First Out) method.
  • Ensure pricing is accurate and up-to-date, correcting any discrepancies in a timely manner.
3. Maintenance and Cleanliness:
  • Follow daily cleaning schedules and complete assigned tasks to maintain a clean and organized grocery department.
  • Ensure that aisles, shelves, and displays are tidy, free of clutter, and presentable to customers.
  • Clean up spills, sweep floors, and perform other maintenance duties as necessary to ensure a safe shopping environment.
4. Loss Prevention:
  • Monitor product handling to minimize damage and reduce shrinkage.
  • Report any cases of theft, whether internal (employee) or external (customer), immediately to the Grocery Manager or Supervisor.
  • Adhere to cash handling procedures and ensure the security of cash and the work area.
5. Health and Safety:
  • Promote a safe workplace by following safety guidelines and procedures, including proper lifting techniques and the safe operation of equipment.
  • Report any safety hazards or concerns to the Grocery Manager or Supervisor promptly.
6. General Responsibilities:
  • Follow company uniform and hygiene standards consistently.
  • Promote teamwork by actively sharing the workload with fellow team members.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as requested by the Grocery Manager or Supervisor.
